The website builder alternative:
you ask, we build it
Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy and Webflow all sell the same thing, and sell it well: the tools to build and run a website yourself. That is a good deal if you want the job. Most business owners don't, which is how a site gets built over a weekend and then never touched again.
Already on one of them and stuck? We'll move your site and look after it.
The software is theirs. The work is still yours.
A builder gives you an editor, templates, hosting and, lately, an AI that drafts the first version. What it can't give you is the hours: choosing the words, getting a page to look right on a phone, and every change after launch, for as long as you own the site.
Each of them will point you to someone who does that work for a fee. Then you are back where a lot of businesses already are: waiting on a person who built the site to find time to change it.
The features, without the box
Contact forms, photo galleries, before-and-after sliders, directories, questions answered on the page, backups and analytics are built into the site, not installed from an app store. 33 of the 46 features on our features page are included in every plan, and that page lists the rest with what each one costs or where it stands.
And the site isn't limited to what an editor can drag into place. It is written in code, so a change can be whatever your business needs: most are a standard request, and bigger builds are scoped and quoted by Superhero Labs.
We have limits too, just different ones: each plan includes a set number of requests a month, and online stores are not something our plans cover. The number of pages isn't one of them; hosting has no page limit.
Five ways to get a small business website
| Superhero | Wix | Squarespace | GoDaddy | Webflow | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it costs | $599 to launch, then $49/month with changes included | $17–$159/month | $19–$99/month, or $25–$139 billed monthly | From $9.99/month on an annual term | $15–$25/month per site, or $25–$39 billed monthly |
| Who builds the site | We design and build it, and a person reviews it before you see it | You, in a drag-and-drop editor or with its AI builder | You, from a template or with its Blueprint AI builder | You, in its editor or with its Airo AI builder | You, in a visual design tool |
| Who makes changes after launch | We do: 3 requests per month on Professional. Most standard requests are turned around within a couple of business days. | You do | You do | You do | You do |
| Adding a feature | 33 of 46 features built in; the rest priced on our features page | Apps from the Wix App Market, each priced by the app's own developer | Squarespace Extensions, some with their own subscription | Its built-in sections | Apps from the Webflow Marketplace, which must state their own fees |
| Going past the editor | No editor to outgrow: the site is code. Changes are requests, and bigger builds are quoted by Superhero Labs | Dev Mode, where you write JavaScript in a code panel or IDE | Code blocks and code injection; scripts need Core or higher and are outside Squarespace's support | A custom code section, or editing the code Airo generates | Custom code embeds, and React code components |
| If you'd rather not do it yourself | That is the product | Hire a freelancer through Wix Marketplace; no published prices | Hire a Squarespace Expert, contracted with them directly; no published prices | A separate design service: $499.99 for a WordPress build with one round of revisions | Hire from its Certified Partners directory; no published prices |
| Taking your site elsewhere | Your content, domain and finished design are yours; the framework it runs on is licensed while your plan is active | No site export: it has to run on Wix | Content only, as a WordPress file; the design and store pages stay behind | Depends on which of its builders your site is on | Code export on a paid Workspace plan (from $19/month), without CMS content, forms or ecommerce working |
Competitor details come from each company's own pricing pages, help centers and developer docs, checked on September 11, 2026. Prices are US list prices billed yearly unless marked, before any first-term promotion. They change, so check before you decide. Superhero's Starter is $299 once for a site of up to 3 pages. Our prices are pilot pricing while we work with our first group of customers.

What each builder is good at, and what to know
Wix
The easiest place to start, with a free plan and an AI builder. Three things to know before you put years into it. You can't switch templates once a site is created. Going past what the editor offers means Dev Mode, where you write JavaScript. And a Wix site can't be exported: in Wix's own words, "Your site must run on Wix's servers." Leaving means rebuilding, which is what a move to us is, and your words and images come with you.
Squarespace
Known for its templates, with no free plan but a 14-day trial. Sites on its current version can't switch templates, only restyle, and custom scripts need the Core plan or higher and sit outside Squarespace's support. It exports your content as a WordPress file, not your design or your store pages, so moving means rebuilding the look. We can match the one you already have.
GoDaddy
Where plenty of businesses bought their domain. Its website builder pricing starts from $9.99 a month on an annual term, its newest builder is Airo, and GoDaddy's help center lists several builders, one of them discontinued, so check which one your site is on. GoDaddy also sells a done-for-you build: $499.99 on WordPress with one round of revisions, and changes after that on a separate care plan.
Webflow
The most capable of the four, and the only one that exports real code, on a paid Workspace plan. It is a professional design tool, and Webflow runs a directory of Certified Partners for people who would rather hire someone to use it. That works until the partner is busy, which is where this page started.
When a website builder is the right answer
If you enjoy building, have a few hours a month, and want to change the site the moment you think of it, a builder costs less than we do, and you should use one. The same goes for a shop with a big catalog: builders' commerce plans are made for that, and online stores are not something our plans cover.
And the honest trade on our side: you don't edit the site yourself. You send a request and it gets done. Most standard requests are turned around within a couple of business days. For people who never wanted the job, that is the point; if you would rather have your hands on an editor every week, the fit check will say we are not for you before you pay anything.
We build it, then we keep it current
We design and build your site, and a person reviews it before you see it. After launch you ask for changes in plain English and we make them. Professional is $599 to launch and $49 a month with 3 requests per month included, and extra changes are $25 each.
